I´ve manually checked all filesystems, which appear to be clean, but it is still dying with code 8 (operational error), has anyone ever heard of this before?Hey Guys - Bit of a strange issue - just fired up Ubuntu - and none of the system sounds work. I know for certain its not my connection as it worked fine just now in windows and I used to get over 100kb/s in previous installations of ubuntu when getting updates or installing new software. What could be causing this?I have an Intel GMA950 graphics card and normally I use the METACITY window manager with no problems playing videos with mplayer using the GL video driver. When I switch to beryl or compiz and use GL as my video driver I get a lot of flickering problems and such. GL2 doesn't work so how can I get this working?

However, lately I the computer will not boot from bootable media even though the boot order lists the CD/DVD drive before the hard disk. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Could Ubuntu have done this? Is it a BIOS issue, a hardware issue? I installed Ogre 1.4.2 on Ubuntu using the wiki guide but when I do `pkg-config --libs OGRE = 1.4 2/dev/null` Its says I have an older version which is true. I also have version 1.2.5 installed. How do I point pkg-config to the newer version I installed?

If I run fglrxinfo as normal user, I get the mesadrivers, but if i sudo the same command I get the proper info. Which files need changing of permission to fix this?, iv downloaded kubuntu DVD and somehow its crashing with a bunch of colours , my video chipset is Via Chrome9 K8m890 and its not supported by most distros but its supported by Vesa, is their anyway or option i can install kubuntu using the vesa driver? or maybe some driver for my chipset?

Isn't there a way to have Liferea show me the entire article right away and just read all news there? Or is rss just a oh-there's-something-new-on-this-page-i'll-go-check-it-out-then-thing? My resolution on the client is the same as the server, so I have to scroll around sometimes to see what I'm after. Once I scroll down though, I can never scroll back up. Have to shut down the session and fire up another if I need to do something LIKE OPEN THE FILE MENU! Anyone heard of this?

Come the next time I boot, however, X fails to start and I get to do the whole process over again. Anyone know what might cause this?I downloaded the ubuntu ISO-file and burned it to cd. On restart, it showed me the entering screen, whether I would want to install. By selecting install, my monitor didn't get input any more (it says) and the whole machine slows down (gets very quiet). However, it does not turn back on, and the only way I can manage to get it back is a reboot - Fn + CRT/LCD doesn't work, nor does switching to a raw terminal and back (ctrl+alt+f1, etc..) Any suggestions?here's my idea (which could be wrong of course): if you use a web browser, you might bookmark your commonly visited web sites; in the same way, if you use gftp for transferring files, you might bookmark ftp sites (or whatever) that you frequently visit. Does this make sense?

Can anyone suggest a cause to the problem or a method of fixing it?I want to get a usb bluetooth adapter for my laptop, but I'm looking for one that is well supported in Linux. Anyone have any reccomendations and/or a link to somewhere that has a list of one's that are well supported?

I'm having some graphics issues, when I start up I just get a blank black screen. Started happening when I enabled my graphics card drivers. I can't use the GUI... Just wondering if anyone could help me either disable my drivers and get in or possibly update them from outside the GUI?haha, sorry if Im annoying, but, have deadlines for some things tomorrow(well later today) and need OSX installed back on my Macbook, Ubuntu is on now, and my Tiger DVD, and CDs wont boot??

I've have moved my ubuntu install to a new box and X won't start. It says No screens found. I can boot into recovery mode, but I haven't found the command to reconfigure X. What command do I need or do I just edit the config by hand?I have a tv card and i'm using tvtime, when i run ubuntu, if my webcam it's plugged tvtime automacally try to open the cam so to run correctly tvtime using the tv card first to run ubuntu i must fisically unplug the cam, any help?

I changed the /etc/hostname to reflect the correct hostname...but it's still trying to resolve the old one. Is there a way to rehash (per-say) the hostname via /etc/hostnae?Hi, I recently tried to upgrade to the fglrx 8.37.6 driver. The driver didn't work under XGL for me, so I purged it and reverted to the 'ati' driver. Now when I go to the restricted driver manager it says my hardware doesn't require any restricted drivers? Any ideas?

However, can't run mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc1. error says can't becuase it's being used. I restarted the computer and nothing is mounting it. any ideas?So, a quick question for everyone. I have an already existing partition that only contains /home. Is there a way to install ubuntu onto that partition w/o formatting it? the livecd installer says it has to be formatted first; will the alternate installer let me install there?

hi, can improper connection of the F_AUDIO_PANEL on the motherboard (to get the audio ports at the front of computer case to work) affect the sound on a mic when it's connected DIRECTLY to the soundcard (ie not using front ports) ? On feisty using krec the mic recording is extremely low, i have to turn on Mic boost and even then sound quality is poor. Tried another mic and same issue. or is this related to ubuntu sound configuration instead ? hey dudes, I keep trying to install Ubuntu to an external hard drive. It seems succesful but GRUB won't load on my computer. Without the bootloader, I can't start ubuntu. Ideally, I'd like to be able to have the bootloader on the drive itself, but I have tried putting it on my main drive too. either way I get an error before GRUB even shows me any options. Any ideas?

It wants me to re-configure, but it can't find the linux subdir of the kernel headers directory (which are installed according to aptitude - provided by linux-libc-dev 2.6.20-16.29 - my kernel vn is now 2.6.20-16 rather than -15) how can I get the appropriate headers installed?I'm trying to track down why my laptop keeps crashing. I was looking through the dmesg log and found this: [19919.104000] pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 1... only the funny thing is, although i have a pcmcia slot, i have never ever put a card in there since I've gotten my laptop.... Any ideas on what this means??

I know I can use du to get the directory size, but is there a simple way to just get the integer so I can run a comparison in the script ? Question for anyone willing. I'm on a toshiba laptop, not using fglrx, and suspend never actually gets to suspend. screen goes black but not off. front lights stay on... hibernate works, but i loose screen brightness control after resuming. Any ideas on either, esp suspend?

However I need access to 32 bit applications. Is there any user-friendly way to emulate/enable 32 bit programs?I have a full install of ubuntu on a hardrive from a laptop with a failed mobo, the computer i'm currently on cant boot from usb, so i made a grub CD to boot the external HD, however i dont know what i should put on the root line? what should i put?

 

I was playing around with the live cd version of ubuntu before installing it and my sound card was working PERFECTLY
i was playing around with the live cd version of ubuntu before installing it and my sound card was working PERFECTLY , now that i have installed ubuntu on my hard drive the sound doesn't work , i searched around and my soundcard is unsupported , how can this work in the live cd version on not on the full ? anyone?`pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0` set as an alias in .bashrc, maybe with alias comp='....' and: `wx-config --cppflags` `wx-config --libs` maybe with alias widget='....' so that I can simply do gcc or g++ comp or widget foofile.cpp or .c any ideas why it's returning errors as if I didn't include those options?
